IMDIS 2021 - International Conference on Marine Data and Information Systems

The IMDIS 2021 conference will be held at online due to COVID-19 pandemic taking place from Monday 12 April to Wednesday 14 April, following this schedule:

  • Monday 12 April : 13:30 - 17:30 (session PRODUCTS)
  • Tuesday 13 April : 13:30 - 17:30 (session SERVICES)
  • Wednesday 14 April: 09:30 - 12:00 (session TECH) / 14:00 - 16:30 (session INFRA)

 

PHIDIAS will be presenting its Ocean use case poster at the IMDIS2021 conference by Alexander Barth from the Université de Liège. Don't miss to check our submitted abstract and poster #134 at this link.

It will be organized by NIOZ (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research), jointly with OGS, IOC/IODE, and PHIDIAS partner IFREMER, in the frame of SeaDataCloud project (EU H2020 - Grant Agreement 730960). Storing and archiving large samples of SeaDataCloud in-situ data and of Satellite Sea Surface Salinity (SMOS satellite) will be one of the outputs of PHIDIAS project.

The International Conference on Marine Data and Information Systems has the aim of providing an overview of the existing information systems to serve different users in ocean science. It also shows the progresses on development of efficient: infrastructures for managing large and diverse data sets, standards, interoperable information systems, services and tools for education.

The Conference will present different systems for online access to data, meta-data and products, communication standards and adapted technology to ensure platforms interoperability. Sessions will focus on infrastructures, technologies and services for different users: environmental authorities, research, schools, universities, etc.

Final PHIDIAS Impact Webinar: The path toward new services to increase HPC and Data capacities

The PHIDIAS’s final impact webinar took place last 12 July which aimed at presenting the tangible outputs achieved by the PHIDIAS HPC initiative at the service of the European HPC and Research community, including main features, concrete impact, and prospective advantages for Research & HPC ecosphere. Here are the brief key takeaways from the event: • A simple web access to a world-class supercomputer, yet with a kind of magic • From 5% of data analysis to 45% for scientists (data access and computing) on the road to 80% • Two portals to find and access the available data • Already available results for Earth Science Systems (detection of extreme events, pollution, nutrients or ocean oxygen measures, etc.) • Security by design is key in creating such an infrastructure (Security Committee) • PHIDIAS is also a prototype to evaluate costs • Metadata is a key point.
