Centre Informatique National de l’Enseignement Supérieur
Institution
The C.I.N.E.S. (Centre Informatique National de l'Enseignement Supérieur) is a national public institution, based in Montpellier (France) and placed under the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI). The CINES has three national strategic missions: Supercomputing, Long-Preservation and Hosting computer platforms nationwide.
Research Expertise
The CINES hosts advanced equipment, including the supercomputer by GENCI (Grand National Equipment for Supercomputing), which was one of the first European machines.
The computational power made available to the research community gives researchers the opportunity to address huge scientific challenges. The CINES is the main actor in the preservation of data and digital documents produced by the French community of Higher Education and Research, offering digital archiving solutions for medium-and-long-term preservation, solutions which are shared and customisable.
Role in PHIDIAS
The CINES, as the coordinator of the project, will ensure the management and the overall coordination. It will also provide access to its computing resources and the necessary support to carry out all the activities scheduled for the project. This includes the needs expressed under workflow implementation pre- and post-processing of data, and visualisation. The CINES' supercomputing resources include the supercomputer OCCIGEN, HPDA environment, dedicated storage fast technology and access to the FAIR Data portal.
