CSC - IT Center for Science is a Finnish centre of expertise in information technology, providing services at an internationally high level of quality, for research, education, culture, public administration and enterprises, to help them thrive and benefit the society at large. CSC is owned by the state of Finland (70%) and Finnish higher education institutions (30%). Established in 1971, CSC currently has 400 employees and supports a European-wide customer base of thousands of researchers in disciplines such as bioscience, environmental science, linguistics, physics, chemistry and mathematical modelling, as well as social and humanities.

Research expertise

CSC is valued by customers and provides internationally high-quality digital services in its field of business. It promotes digitalisation development of its sector in such a way that the data serving as the basis of the information economy and research is properly managed and, in turn, generates added value. It ensures that software and data are interoperable, reusable and easily accessible.

Role in PHIDIAS

CSC will collaborate in the work package about computer and storage workflow management.

Aleksi Kallio (M) received an MSc in software engineering from the University of Helsinki in 2006 and a PhD in computational data analysis from Aalto University in 2016. He has published articles on data mining methods and applications. He worked with the software development industry before joining the CSC - IT Center for Science as a software developer in 2001. Currently, he manages the data analytics group and focuses on the development of data-driven, user-oriented and cloud software-based services.

Damien Lecarpentier (M) has a Master's in Political Science and a PhD in Social Sciences from the Advanced School of Social Sciences in Paris. He joined CSC as coordinator for international activities in January 2009. He has been involved as work package and task leader in policy work and outreach activities in major FP7-funded projects in the areas of grids (EGI_DS), HPC (DEISA2, PRACE, EESI) and e-Infrastructure policy (e-IRGSP2, e-Infranet).
He is currently managing the EUDAT project, which aims to build a sustainable cross-disciplinary and cross-national data infrastructure providing a set of shared services to access and preserve research data.

The 30-months project NGIatlantic.eu will push the Next Generation Internet a step further by providing cascade funding to EU-based researchers and innovators in carrying out Next Generation Internet related experiments in collaboration with US research teams.
